EPA is currently reviewing five fungicide active ingredients that are commonly used in specialty crops. These include ferbam, iprodione, laminarin, thiram, and ziram. There is an open comment period on these fungicides through April 4th.

EPA's review process of pesticides is not new. Every 15 years a registered pesticide must be reviewed for reregistration. Only pesticides registered by the EPA can be legally sold or distributed in the US.

However, concerns have been raised that the current reviews of these fungicides may negatively impact specialty crops that rely on these active ingredients. The concerns were brought up by members of the IR-4, which is a project that focuses on facilitating registrations of conventional chemical pesticides and biopesticides for use on specialty crops in the US.
