MU Extension encourages Missouri farm operators, lenders, appraisers and landowners to help track farmland trends by participating in the 2025 Missouri Farmland Values Opinion Survey.
This annual survey is one of MU Extension's most widely used resources for critical insights into land value trends for cropland, pastureland, timberland and recreational/hunting land over the last calendar year.
"For this survey to be robust and indicative of Missouri trends, we need broad input from Missourians," said Juo-Han Tsay, MU Extension assistant professor and survey organizer. "The more responses we receive, the more accurate and useful the results will be in helping stakeholders make informed decisions about farmland purchases, sales and investments."
Participation benefits all Missourians and helps MU Extension share a more localized perspective that complements USDA NASS statewide estimates. Farmers, lenders and other stakeholders use this data for farm management decisions that drive economic development across the state.
In 2024, survey responses revealed slower growth in Show-Me State farmland values. Significant value increases were seen in pastureland, timber and recreational land. Average "good" non-irrigated cropland was valued at $8,524 per acre, and average "good" pastureland was valued at $5,687 per acre. Tsay noted that by participating in the 2025 survey, respondents can help create a clearer picture of Missouri's farmland market.

ANYONE with knowledge of a recent land transaction—whether as a seller, buyer, lender, appraiser or real estate agent—is encouraged to complete the survey. Individuals may also submit multiple responses if they have insights on multiple transactions.
