Mizzou Pest Management Field Day Set for July 9th

The annual Mizzou Pest Management Field Day will be Tuesday July 9th at the Bradford Research and Extension Center, approximately 8 miles east of Columbia,

Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. with opening comments by state extension weed scientist Kevin Bradley at 8:30. The morning will include guided wagon tours with stops that feature presentations by university-trained scientists including state extension plant pathologist Kaitlyn Bissonnette and entomologist Kevin Rice.

Graduate student Will Tubbs sweeps for insects. He will share the latest results on relationships between insects and dicamba-injured soybean.

Narrow windrow burning is one harvest weed seed destruction technique being studied. Integration of non-chemical strategies to reduce the weed seed soil bank will be discussed.

Weed science topics will include the Enlist technology, integration of chemical and non-chemical methods for weed control, herbicide injury to ornamentals and fruiting plants, the latest dicamba results, and other weed-related topics.

Lunch will be served at noon after which attendees will have the opportunity to view plots that showcase a variety of herbicide treatments and weed management programs for use in corn and soybean. These plots will be clearly labeled and mapped out so that they can be viewed easily.

Registration for the field day will be $10.00 to cover cost associated with lunch and refreshments.

Graduate student Eric Oseland places low-wind tunnels in the field for his research project. Eric will share results from this project and other studies.

Smoke bombs can provide a visual of inversion formation. The latest weather research information will be discussed.
