Bloodgood

Japanese maples are a species of deciduous shrubs or small trees that can grow 3 to 30 feet tall. Varieties vary for form, color, leaf type, size, and preferred growing conditions. Bloodgood is one of the varieties displayed in our garden. It is the most popular upright, large-leaved, tree form of Japanese maple grown in the United States. Foliage is a deep almost purple-red color, and it holds this color throughout the growing season. Leaves turn a brighter red during fall. At maturity it can be as wide as it is tall, reaching up to 20 feet. Its name, bloodgood, comes from the nursery in New York where it was developed.
