Iijima Sunago

Japanese maples are a species of deciduous shrubs or small trees that can grow 3 to 30 feet tall. Varieties vary for form, color, leaf type, size, and preferred growing conditions. Iijima Sunago is one of the varieties displayed in our garden. It is an upright growing tree that can reach up to 20 feet at maturity. Iijima Sunago has large, lobed leaves that change to shades of copper during the fall. It prefers rich, well-drained soil, but is adaptable to other soil types. The name means "gold dust of Iijima," which relates to the dusting of yellow-brown spots on the foliage.
