Vinca minor

Vinca minor is native from Europe to southern Russia. Also known as common periwinkle, it is an evergreen, trailing vine that can reach up to 6 feet in height if given support. Vinca minor is a popular choice as a groundcover because it forms a dense mat along forest floors where shade prevents grass from growing. It can choke out competing plants and weeds so it needs to be watched closely. Leaves are a glossy-green color and about an inch in length. Vinca minor flowers in the spring with bright violet-blue petals. The color periwinkle is named after the flower color of vinca minor.
