Dawn Redwood

Dawn redwood was first known as a fossil tree because it was believed to be extinct. But, in 1946 it was discovered growing in a remote area of China. It is a fast growing tree capable of reaching up to 200 feet. It is believed that the species has existed for more than 50 million years. Trees are deciduous conifer, meaning it drops its leaves in the fall like maples and produces cones like pine trees. In the fall, its leaves turn a coppery-orange color.
