Turfgrass

Turf areas in gardens are not showy, but are used a backdrop for other plants or are areas for relaxing and playing. Several turfgrass species are adapted to Missouri, but species most often used alone or in mixtures are tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass and zoysiagrass. Properly managed turfgrasses will live for many years. Although most turfgrass plants are capable of growing several feet tall, they are mowed to less than 4 inches.
