Crocus

Crocuses are native to southern Europe and Asia. Plants only reach a height of 3 to 6 inches. Delicately cupped flowers appear mostly in early spring. They can appear so early it is not uncommon to see them breaking through the snow in late winter. Flowers can come in yellows, purples, and whites. They are fragrant, helping to draw bees out in early spring to begin the season. The yellow stigma in the center can be dried and used for culinary purposes.
