Redbud

Redbud is native to North America. Frequently used as an ornamental tree, redbud is one of the earliest spring blooming trees. These trees welcome spring with purple-ish red buds — or, less commonly, white — that cover the zig-zag branches and even appear along the short tree's multiple trunks. Seedpods appear later in the season. Redbud trees usually reach a mature height of 20 to 30 feet with a slightly smaller spread.

Alba redbud is unique from all its redbud relatives. It produces pure white flowers. Leaves turn pale yellow in the fall.

'Forest pansy' is a common cultivar of redbud. Beginning in early spring, dark rose purple flowers decorate the branches. Leaves are reddish-purple. Fall color is similar to the normal leaf color, or it can be a bright shade of orange.
