Chastetree

Chastetree is native to the Mediterranean and Asia. Shrubs or small trees grow from 10 to 20 feet tall. Lavender clusters of flowers arrive in late spring and stay into early summer. The aroma of the tree in bloom causes it to be referred to as "sage tree" by some. Fleshy fruits take the place of the flowers. These fruits have seeds that are used like black pepper. Ancient Romans and Greeks believed the trees served multiple purposes, including warding off evil.
