Japanese Black Pine

Japanese black pine is an evergreen tree native to coasts of Japan and South Korea. In Missouri, maximum mature height is about 60 feet. Trunk bark becomes darker with maturity until it is black, and ruts create plates along the trunk surface. Leaves are glossy green needles 3 to 5 inches long. Female cones are about 3 inches long and brown.
