European Beech

European beech is native to Europe. In North America, mature height of this deciduous tree is about 50 feet. Male and female flowers are produced on the same tree. Fruit are small and triangular in shape. These beechnuts are edible. The smooth bark was used as pages for early European literature. Leaves are smooth and margins can become wrinkled with maturity. In fall the leaves turn a dark bronze color.
