Liatris is native to the eastern United States. Plants can grow up to 4 feet tall but only reach a spread of less than two feet. Columnar inflorescences appear from July to August. Flower colors can range from red to purple. These plants can be used in cut arrangements, as a dried display, or they can attract birds and butterflies to the garden.
