Penstemon
Penstemon is native to North and Central America. There are about 250 species. Plant height varies greatly among species. Tubular flowers with delicate petals appear in columns that rise above the leaves of the plant. A common name for penstemon is "beardtongue" because of the hairy stamen that protrudes from the center of the tubular flower. In addition to bringing butterflies to the garden, these flowers are also inviting to hummingbirds.
