Pipevine

The pipevine plant is also known as Dutchman's pipe. It is a woody, deciduous, twining vine that is typically found growing along streams and in moist forests. It will need a trellis, fence, or tree to grow and can be as tall as 20-30 feet. The pipevine plant has pipe shaped flowers and large, heart-shaped leaves. Vines of plant are poisonous because they contain an acid that is toxic. This plant is the sole food source for larvae of the pipevine swallowtail butterfly. The toxin in the vines passes to the larvae and butterfly and protects them from predators.
