Floral Buds

Many trees and shrubs produce showy flowers in spring. These flowers begin as buds and those buds are often visible during the winter. Buds add winter interest to trees and shrubs that have lost all of their leaves. Winter interest comes from arrangement, shape, and color of the buds. Most buds are small, so look closely. Sometimes winter weather is unusually warm and spring flower buds begin to open. If freezing temperatures return, and they often do, the flowers may be killed by frost
